SUMMARY:GENERATION2. Young Talents.
DESCRIPTION:Notes on the Double Wall Projects 2004-2008 at Ludwig Forum AachenWelcome: Eva BirkenstockWed 22.05.2024\, at 7 pmThe lecture will be held in German. On the occasion of the exhibition Monument to My Paper Body by Ulrike Müller\, we are pleased to invite you to a lecture by Prof. Harald Kunde\, director of the Ludwig Forum from 2002-2008\, on Wednesday\, May 22\, 2024\, at 7 pm. “In the course of the then upcoming new presentation of the unique Ludwig Collection and its division into an American and a European wing\, the idea arose around 2003 to rethink and use the two largest opposing walls of the Ludwig Forum (each 14 meters high and 9 meters wide!) in a new way. In direct spatial relation to the LED installation by Jenny Holzer (Untitled\, 1991) and the three-part video sculpture Earth\, Moon\, Sun (1990) by Nam June Paik\, they had previously only served as a background for large-scale formats of the collection. Their more meaningful contextualization now opened up the possibility of offering these two enormous surfaces directly to artists as an intervention space for the duration of a year. In this way\, both the energy and intensity of a current artistic position could revitalize the space and a complex relationship between intervention and collection could be established.” (Harald Kunde) In his lecture\, Prof. Harald Kunde\, director of the Ludwig Forum from 2002-2008 and initiator of the Double Wall Projects\, will present the previous projects by Margret Eicher (2004/05)\, Barbara Kruger (2005/06)\, Henrik Schrat (2006/07) and Dan Perjovschi (from 2008) in detail and explain the intentions and backgrounds of the temporary interventions\, whose character inevitably includes the fact that they are no longer present in the physical sense. Since December 2023\, the series has once again been an integral part of the exhibition program at the Ludwig Forum Aachen in an expanded form. Prof. Harald Kunde\, born in Halle/Saale in 1962\, studied art history\, German studies and education at the University of Leipzig. After working at the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig and at the Förderkreis der Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst\, Kunde became director of the Städtisches Kunsthaus in Dresden in 1995. In 2002\, Harald Kunde moved to the Ludwig Forum Aachen where he realized exhibition and catalog projects with Tacita Dean\, Jeppe Hein\, Sophie Calle\, Franz Gertsch\, Chuck Close and Erwin Wurm\, among others. In 2004\, he initiated the Double Wall Projects at the Ludwig Forum Aachen\, which were realized in four iterations until 2008 with the artists Margret Eicher\, Barbara Kruger\, Henrik Schrat and Dan Perjovschi. Kunde has been director at Museum Kurhaus Kleve since 2012 and has realized exhibition and catalog projects on contemporary art (including Llyn Foulkes\, Michael Sailstorfer\, Stephen Prina\, Haim Steinbach\, John Akomfrah) as well as on art historical positions (Govert Flinck\, Hendrik Goltzius\, Stammbuch der Klever Grafen & Herzöge\, photographs by Evelyn Hofer). In 2021\, he curated the exhibition Intuition! Dimensionen des Frühwerks von Joseph Beuys and in 2022 the anniversary exhibition Schatzhaus & Labor. 25 Jahre MKK. Kunde was co-author of a monograph on Neo Rauch (Taschen Verlag 2012) and guest curator of the exhibition Neo Rauch. The Obsession of the Demiurg (BOZAR Brussels\, 2013).
