The founding of the Neue Galerie \u2013 Sammlung Ludwig in Aachen\u00a050 years ago, the predecessor institution of the Ludwig Forum f\u00fcr\u00a0Internationale Kunst, is in a turbulent time. The 1970s were all about\u00a0change. On the one hand, the end of the post-war economic boom, oil\u00a0crises, political affairs, the RAF and the coming to terms with the Nazi\u00a0past are keeping people on their toes, while on the other there is an\u00a0unprecedented consumer and entertainment industry. While some\u00a0amuse themselves in their spare time, others take to the streets to\u00a0protest: against forgetting, the Vietnam War, armament and nuclear\u00a0power \u2013 and for more democracy, women’s rights and social equity.\u00a0The artists of the time comment on and shape the social upheavals,\u00a0including the still quite young video art. Their enemy is, in particular, the\u00a0new mass medium of television, against which they are creating an\u00a0alternative program \u2013 and this is also part of the complexity of this story\u00a0\u2013 sometimes in cooperation with the public broadcasters.<\/p>\n
