Art x Cuba

Contemporary Perspectives since 1989

Opening: Thursday, 09/07/2017, 7 pm

The collection of Peter and Irene Ludwig is home to one of the six largest and the first-ever holdings of contemporary Cuban art in Germany. This fascinating section of the collection focuses on the visual art of the Caribbean state, foremost from the period since 1989, a time marked by crisis and attempts to overcome it. In the exhibition Art x Cuba – Contemporary Perspectives since 1989, to be held at the Ludwig Forum for International Art in Aachen from the summer of 2017, these works from the Collection encounter for the first time contemporary works from Cuba (by artists such as Yoan Capote, Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo, Felipe Dulzaides, Celia & Yunior). This encounter opens a discussion on aesthetic and formal developments in Cuban art as well as the subjects it has focused on.

With generous support of the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation and the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
Patron of the exhibition: Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel

Curators: Andreas Beitin and Tonel (Antonio Eligio Fernández)

Curatorial assistance: Janice Mitchell and Denise Petzold
