The Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi (*1961) has for many years been one of the most sought-after sketch artists in the international art scene and is particularly famous for his spatial designs. In the Ludwig Forum Aachen, he decorated the two 15-meter-high opposing walls of the museum’s “Lichtturm” (Light Tower) with a pictographic system of references. In precise and ironically reflective abbreviations of the zeitgeist, he broaches the issues of globalisation, consumerism, fashion and art discourses, and comes out with an absolute abundance of symbols and pictorial narratives. Executed directly in white chalk on black wall surfaces, reminiscences of children’s drawings and works of art brut mingle with current streams of consciousness to form a labyrinth of symbols that leaves a long-lasting imprint in the visual memory of the beholder.
