Forum Literatur: Die Projektoren. Reading with Clemens Meyer

At Ludwig Forum Aachen, Clemens Meyer will read from his novel Die Projektoren, which was published in August and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize 2024 and nominated for the Bavarian Book Prize 2024. The reading will be held in German.

“An epic about the crises of Europe and the art of storytelling. From Leipzig to Belgrade, from the GDR to the People’s Republic of Yugoslavia, from cinema spectacles to adventure novels. Relentless and fast-paced, The Projectors tells of our present being shattered by the past – and of incomparable characters: in the Velebit Mountains, a former partisan experiences the adventurous filming of the Winnetou films. Decades later, the brutal battles of the Yugoslavian wars take place in these very places – in the midst of it all, a group of young right-wing radicals from Dortmund experience the futility of their ideology. And in Leipzig, the texts of a former patient are discussed at a conference in a psychiatric clinic: How did he manage to disappear without a trace? Was he able to predict the future? And what connects him to the world traveler Dr. May, who was once also a patient at the clinic?” (S. Fischer Verlag)

In addition to the museum’s numerous activities in the fields of performance, dance, music and film, the Forum Literatur introduces an explicitly literary constant to the program of the Ludwig Forum Aachen. From now on, international authors are invited in regular intervals to share their work with a broad public in the context of readings, performances, workshops, and conversations. The first edition of the Forum Literatur takes place at the Ludwig Forum Aachen from January to December 2024. It was conceived in close dialogue between Eva Birkenstock (Director, Ludwig Forum Aachen) and Hermann Müller (Literary Curator, Berlin) and is generously supported by the Kunststiftung NRW. In 2024, the Aachen-based Backhaus book store will set up book tables for the events as part of a cooperation with Forum Literatur.
