Great importance is attached to research at the Ludwig Forum. As a museum for modern art, we are dedicated to producing studies not only on the works in our collection but also relevant to modern and contemporary art history. In the spirit of an “explorative curating”, we develop exhibitions which, in terms of their format and line of inquiry, contribute directly to art studies and characterize the historical development and important role of the Ludwig Forum. Two independent research projects are currently underway: the project “Video Archive” on our video art collection and “Platform Aachen”, a project on developments in art of international importance which have emerged out of Aachen. Both projects investigate art from the 1960s through to the present. These are just two examples of how the Ludwig Forum meets its task and obligation as a research institution responsible for a collection of such outstanding quality. We are supported in our efforts by research and art foundations like the Volkswagen-Stiftung and the Gerda-Henkel-Stiftung.
