Christina Kubisch has been researching and mapping the electromagnetic fields of cities since 2003; in Electrical Walks, the results are made audible through induction headphones specially designed by the artist. Discover the electric, electronic and digital devices that are all around us: lighting systems, transformers, electronic security tags, CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi points, power lines, mobile phones, computers, cash machines, antennas, illuminated signs and navigation systems together generate a web of electrical fields that, for all their invisibility, are highly and elusively present.
For her exhibition The Emergence of Sound (24.5.–20.9.2026) at the Ludwig Forum, Christina Kubisch has conceived a new, two part Electrical Walk that you can experience individually: The Forum Walk through the museum invites you to discover the building and its artworks not just through sight, but also through sound. The electromagnetic waves of light sculptures, video monitors and other works are present throughout the collection.
The City Walk is an invitation to stroll from the Ludwig Forum to the city centre of Aachen, discovering the acoustic presence of the urban infrastructure along the way. Head to the designated locations with your electromagnetic headphones and make your own discoveries.
You can borrow the headphones free of charge from the reception. Please leave your phone number and an ID with us as a deposit; it will be returned to you at the end of the walk. Please remember to return the head phones within the institution’s opening hours.
